MAKE YOUR HOME IN IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP!

Some of the nicest people live in Ironwood Township!  If you are interested in moving to Gogebic County in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, we hope you'll consider locating your family to Ironwood Township.  Our millage rates are low and our recreational opportunities are high.

There is a nice selection of affordable homes for sale in the area while others choose to build new homes in Ironwood Township.  Contact realtor members of the Ironwood Area Chamber of Commerce, and a real estate flyer can be mailed to you.   There are many locations to move into.  You can choose a friendly neighborhood area near the Gogebic Community College, or a modest home in the re-settlement area on Sunset Road.  Other locations offer plenty of privacy and room to roam in the woods, still others are in beautiful country settings with views of streams, rivers, lakes, rolling hills or forests.

Ironwood Township has plenty of wildlife, residents often see white tailed deer in meadows or in wild apple orchards.  Bald eagles and black bear sightings are common too.  Much of the land in Ironwood Township is wooded and owned by large corporations where their lands can be used for hunting, fishing, and hiking.   The Ottawa National Forest has nearly 17,000 acres of land in Ironwood Township alone and there's even more forest land under the forest management of Gogebic County.

Families will enjoy winter sports with Big Powderhorn Mountain and Mt. Zion ski areas both located in Ironwood Township.  Cross country skiing can be enjoyed at Wolverine Ski hill.  It is operated by a volunteer club and brings you through acres of scenic trails.  Snowmobiling is another favorite activity, with many trails connecting throughout the Western Upper Peninsula.

Ironwood Township took the lead in community sports by providing an area wide soccer field near the airport.  This soccer field services more than 350 children throughout Gogebic County, Michigan and Iron County, Wisconsin.  With over 100 volunteers, this is a very successful program for area youth.  Three new soccer fields were added in 2000 with the help of Gogebic County Road Commission and the generosity of many volunteers, especially Snow Country Contracting, Inc., who  donated all equipment time to build the new fields.  This recreational airport park also hosts the Little League fields and can be used by area residents.  Additional grant funding is being pursued for added park improvements headed by Jyl Olson, township treasurer and a group of volunteers.

Ironwood Township is the only township in Gogebic County that offers over 30 miles of Lake Superior shoreline.  Ironwood Township also features the National Scenic Byway area of Black River Harbor, boasting five beautiful waterfalls along the way. Copper Peak, the only ski-flying hill in North America, can also be seen here.

The Gogebic-Iron County airport is also located in Ironwood Township.  Business entities looking for tax breaks and a business opportunity can build or relocate a business in the tax-free Renaissance Zone near the airport.
After your move to Ironwood Township, we'll have a representative visit you from the Nicolet Welcome Service; you'll receive a free package of information and items from area businesses.

NOW IS THE TIME TO MAKE YOUR INVESTMENT IN IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP

It is expected that the 2000 census will show a 10-20 percent increase in Ironwood Township.  This is great news for the township because it reflects on real estate sales, both in volume and prices paid.  During 1999, Ironwood Township had over 2.6 million in total real estate sales.  Homes sold for as high as $175,000 and land sales of 40 acres sold for between $18,750 to $35,000 and prices continue to climb.
New construction can only be described as phenomenal. New construction in 1999 totaled an estimated $1,430,000.  Included in this figure are eight new homes, one estimated at $160,000 and plenty of remodeling and upgrades to existing homes.  Another key township success is the efficient management of township funds, in 1999 Ironwood Township has the lowest tax millage in Gogebic County.
Ironwood Township has some of the nicest recreational facilities found anywhere the county.  Improvements this year include handicap access to the community building and gymnasium.  Grant funding is being pursued for the new 5 year township recreational plan submitted and approved by the state.  Ironwood Township continues to offer it's residents a special quality of life.

Due to the fiscal responsibility over the past few years, our millage rate has dropped to 3 mills.  If our projections are correct, we feel confident that we can keep this rate for several years.
