13th Annual JACK FROST FESTIVAL AND PARADE

Plans are underway for the 13th Annual Jack Frost Festival of Lights Parade.  The date for the parade is Friday, December 7, 2007.  The parade will begin promptly at 6:00 p.m. in downtown Ironwood along Aurora Street starting at the Ironwood Carnegie Library corner.  Parade participants must be at their line-up position at 5:00 p.m.  The parade will again be televised live by Charter Communications.

Parade entries are encouraged to incorporate this year’s theme, “Strut Your Winter Sport Stuff.” Floats will be judged on creative ways of decorating their float entries using this year’s theme.  Floats are the only entries that are judged and who will qualify for trophies.  The Chamber is the only float allowed with Santa so kids are not confused.  However, cut-outs of Santa or other Santa decorations are allowed.  Unregistered units will not be allowed to participate in the parade.  Registration forms will be mailed to last year’s participants.  Forms are also available on the Chamber’s Web site www.ironwoodmi.org, or at the Chamber office located in the Old Depot Museum.

Get your registration forms in early.  The first 50 floats registered are guaranteed a spot in the parade.  Entries need to be submitted to the Chamber office NO LATER than Wednesday, NOVEMBER 23, 2007.  A parade registration form, a map of the parade route, parade rules and a Jack Frost $10,000 raffle form are all enclosed.  We will again have parade directors to assist you at each of the seven parade line-up sections.  You’ll be able to identify them by their orange attire.  A parade line-up list will be available on Friday, November 30, 2007.

Any street vendor, group or organization that is planning to sell something on parade night must fill out a vendor registration form.  This form is available at the Chamber office or on the Chamber’s web site.  Vendors selling food must apply for a food license available at the Western Upper Peninsula Health Department located in Bessemer, MI.

Activities before and after the parade are being organized such as the Gingerbread House contest (River Valley State Bank), an Ironwood Theatre performance and Candy Cane Court (River Valley State Bank) after the parade where kids can visit with Santa, Mrs. Claus and Jack Frost.  The 2nd Annual Long John Snow Shoe Run will be held on Aurora Street prior to the start of the parade.  For more information on this event contact Nancy Zak at 906/932-5223.

If you wish to volunteer or organize a festival activity call the Ironwood Chamber office at (906) 932-1122.
